The Principal / Senior Medical Writer position offers a unique opportunity to help develop and grow a Medical & Editorial team, making it the perfect time to jump on board. As a lead scientific contact, you will develop new business proposals and materials for our suite of online educational activities. You will employ your own subject matter knowledge and experience to help ensure that content is written to the highest scientific quality and meets key learning objectives.

You will serve as the lead scientific contact for global clinical experts across a wide range of therapy areas. The Project Management team will remain the main liaison with our pharmaceutical sponsors, as well as driving and supporting project development.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with recruitment and onboarding of the Medical team, and managing the team of freelancers.
  • Serve as the lead scientific contact for your clinical experts, building key relationships and contributing to the identification of new educational activities.
  • Work closely with our Medical & Editorial team to ensure that all materials developed for our educational activities are of high quality, scientifically accurate, appropriate to the target audience, meet the communications objectives and conform to industry guidelines.
  • Work with the project management team to deliver assigned proposals and activities according to the standard operating procedure, helping to ensure activities are completed on time and within budget.
  • Provide editorial support and guidance along with strategic input to supporter accounts, actively seeking to add value.
  • Appropriately report any clinical expert/supporter comments or feedback to the wider team that may impact upon the wider programme of work.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant therapy areas, industry guidelines and best practices.
  • Provide excellent scientific and strategic input during interactions with clinical experts/supporters.
  • Represent the company at key events and meetings with clinical experts/supporters.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of new business proposals, attending pitches as required to secure new business and grow existing accounts.
  • Communicate effectively with the Client Services Director and the wider team, and proactively seek ways to improve efficiency or quality to achieve team goals.
  • Provide inspiration, share best practice and actively encourage team members to be more creative and innovative in their approach.

Personal Specification

  • Life science degree essential, higher degree (PhD) preferred.
  • Industry experience, ideally in an agency environment.
  • Experience of a broad range of medical education activities across the full range of media.
  • Ability to pick up on new therapy areas quickly and to work independently across multiple activities.
  • Excellent scientific writing style and fantastic attention to detail.
  • On-site and supporter facing experience essential.
  • Good team player.
  • Proven organisational, planning, proactivity and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Previous line management and/or mentoring experience preferred.
